Forum > Rhadigan

No disrespect to what is probably a very hard-working, truly nice guy, but Rhadigan is VANILLA in the booth...a jarring contrast to Lewin's wit and energy.

Not that Grieve's motor runs all that hot, but if you do go with a Grieve, don't you need a ringer in the front seat?

It's early, but that was not top shelf...and it WAS a good game to call.

I agree Mike... Just not the same kind of energy there was when Lewin was calling the game... And I noticed there were several awkward silences during the game..

I disagree that it was a good game to call. Sure, it was a Ranger win and the bottom of the 8th was a nice rally, but it was pretty draggy through the middle.

It may be just because we are scrutinizing him more because he's new, but I could swear I've already heard him misspeak about the game situation and what's going on more than anyone else I can remember. He's not engaging, there were awkward silences, and several times it felt like TAG had to step in and take over for a sec to get things back on track, so to speak. I found myself wishing it was only Tom speaking. I, for one, REALLY miss listening to Josh Lewin on the TV broadcasts.

I don't find that he's drawing me into the game; rather, I'm more often finding myself watching the game and avoiding the distraction of a self-aware, milquetoast play-by-play.

He doesn't have a particularly instinctive cadence on 'big play' calls. He's not adding any compelling information. He's pleasant but not witty. It all just has a B-string feel....like the lead guy is out with laryngitis or something.

He does seem genuinely nice, but so does an usher.

It sounds like you guys want a nanny for a game caller. Give me a break, he's not enhancing my experience of the game, hes not engaging me, hes not witty. Waaaaaaaaaaaaa

I found him to be NOT ABRASIVE and that means a lot to me. Lewin sometimes did sound like an asshole and an idiot however although at times he was engaging as well. Further, almost every other broadcast team you listen to is in someway abrasive, in some way annoying as hell. Most color guys say stupid shit regularly and constantly annoy with their desperate attempts to engage and entertain. If Rhadigan can stay away from that I think that is great.

I think Grieve has a very nice knowledge of the game and hes a Rangers classic.

Rhadigan will learn to be more interesting but for now I am just thanking God that he is not annoying.

All in all I'm pleased with the way he has started out. If he doesn't blow your mind just remember that the point is to watch baseball, and that is far more pleasant when you don't have a guy annoying you constantly.

For some reason, I was annoyed that he kept calling Saltalamacchia "Salty" To me, when a guy wears another jersey it's time to drop the nickname he had when he was a Ranger. I know I'm nitpicking with that one but it was irritating
