Forum > AnyOne Else Worried about CJ as our Ace

CJ has yet to impress in any of his outings. He's still too much of a nipper and always takes too long to settle down. Anyone else worried?

I look at it like this - except for a few glorious weeks of Cliff Lee, when have we ever had a real ace in here in the last 10 years? CJ might not be a real ace, but he's good, and so is Lewis, and all Hunter does is win games, and they have some other talented guys there like Holland who might be very good this season - so no, I'm not worried about it. What's the point in worrying about it now?

He just went 4 with one run, three hits, a walk and 3 Ks today.

If you're gonna kneejerk over a few ST innings, at least kneejerk in the right direction...

I've never really seen CJ as an ace, but he is technically our ace and Pull T is right that it is only Spring Training. Im more worried about Hunter as our #3 tbh

Not at all. How i see it an ace is an A plus only a handful of teams have a true ace. CJ to me is around an A minus and our #2 Colby is like a B plus plus so i think it evens out especially when you factor in how much better our Offense and D is compared to most teams.

Not knee-jerking about the game today, good outing over all, though I would have liked to see him go scoreless. In reality this game probably hurt Dave Bush more than anyone and is again a demarcator of Mark Lowe's inconsistency.

If there is one thing we can take from Lowe's 4 innings this spring it's that he is clearly inconsistent. In two of the innings he gave up no runs, in two of them he was scoreless. This guy is all over the map.

Really? Guys, the pitchers who aren't trying desperately to win games are working on their weaknesses. CJ is trying new things, picking a certain pitch to work on in a given inning, and throwing it to excess. Sure he doesn't want to give up a lot of hits and runs, but his primary goal is to figure out different ways to get guys out.

CJ is going to be just fine.
The only thing I am worried about him is last year workload catching up with him.
Other than that he will have another good year.
I am hoping that one of our youg guys will knock him off his throne by next year, and that would be a nice problem.

Umm, isn't this MAR 11th... still spring training? Drama builds in ST, not made. Rest Henry, rest.
