Forum > Dave Bush to the Rescue?

Yes, it's early in ST. Arms were extended to *Three Innings today (MAR 4)... what's your shot
on Dave Bush taking away one of the available Rotation Slots, from the Kid Prospects?

There's a possibility of him filling in one of the 2 available spots, depends on how feliz and brandon webb rehabs... other than that he can be a nice long man/ spot starter.

It is still too early to worry much about it happening, but I would LOVE to have the problem of 6 or 7 guys who have demonstrated dominance and clearly deserved to be in the starting rotation (providing two of them are CJ and Lewis).

We won't get through the season with only 5 SPs used this year. Nobody ever does. The Rangers will need 6-8 SPs in all likelyhood.

Spanky68, I agree, and to expantiate your point; this problem could escalate if our newly signed 4 year extension GM will get another starter before the trading deadline !?!?

Steve: While it isn't impossible, the odds of adding someone capable of starting the season over the long list of guys they currently have competing for that spot are pretty high, I think. There are injuries first of all (across the league), then you have to factor in guys who are ineffective in ST - so pretty much anyone of any value will have already been snapped up. If you're talking about a trade - it's possible - maybe in a scenario where Texas sent 2 guys like Hurley and Kirkman for Blanton - but would you do that? Is Blanton going to be that much better that that pair?

So I don't think that's happening. I think all signs point to a deadline acquisition more than anything.

WWJDD?

I definately don't like the Hurley and Kirkman for Blanton, or any similar scenerio trade, but
nice to have this much pitching depth.
You are right; "there are injuries" and some will just flop in ST.
You know they say it usually takes a team eight starters to get through a season, well for the Rangers it may take even more (see last year)

I guess the starting pitching is reason for some concern, if Webb is still rehabbing and Feliz is back to closing, which Newberg just tweeted he thinks will happen. But assuming CJ, Lewis and Hunter are healthy, you have Holland, Kirkman, Bush, Tomko, and Harrison to compete for the 4th and 5th spots - that's plenty of depth to start the season.

I think Texas would love it if this rotation "stuck" over the long season: CJ, Lewis, Webb, Hunter, and Holland.

What if PHILLY called and wanted YOUNG... would he go? Would you take BLANTON, if offered?

HubZ

Good question.
As much I love MY, I would take it, I think it would be beneficial for the long run, it may also open up a spot for a young player.
Blaton for Michael Young..... bring it on JD !!! (that is why you got that extention)
.... lets not forget about how much the Rangers would have to pick up of MY salary....
I said this before, I think it would be silly to pay MY 6-10 mil a year to play somewhere else.

MAR 14th~ I'd say Neftali just threw two extra logs on the starter fire today.
Bush seems almost inconsequintal. Hunter, may be swept to Long Bullpen,
as Feliz and possibly Hurley both pass him up. Holland, Kirkman and Harrison
battle it out for the 2nd Lefty starter role in rotation. Ten days before "Pick'm".

...but then again, Bush won't go away, as Hunter & Holland look very unimpressive.
MAR 15 - Dave Bush, first Ranger arm to throw 5 innings - 1 run allowed, 3 unearned

24MAR~ The rotation was picked today... excluding Feliz ... Almost in the same breath, Hunter
goes down with a groin strain ... enter DAVE BUSH once more & to the Rescue?

@HubZ ... Scary how you may have called it three weeks ago. Very scary.

Bush is a FA if he doesn't make the roster so maybe that more than anything will determine that he takes either the last rotation or bullpen spot

...now there's the B.Mc story developing in Oakland.
Findiing that 'timing & turn moment', seems to elude our Rangers

Trading Matt Treanor might be a solution to a Davis re-entry...

Dave Bush (WoW) crawls through small window and makes the Ranger squad- RESCUE ... what next, Ogando as our 5th? Tomko & Tobin, now safe, kept in waiting?

March 28, 2011 at 11:41 AM | Unregistered CommenterHubZ

Bush and Tobin both to long relief. Tomko to AAA. At least it would seem. Tobin must have something for them to pull this trigger.

So is Ogando the fourth starter and Harrison the fifth?
