Forum > Better 1-2 Punch?
#2 by far...better OBP and gets away from MY's annual ~20 GIDPs.

I prefer Andrus-Kinsler. I also would be a fan of Andrus-Hamilton, with Beltre 3, Cruz 4, Kinsler 5, and a Napoli/Murphy platoon 6.

Kinsler had the best OBP on the team last year. Why not put him in the lead off spot since we have no pure lead off hitter except for Borbon who has not yet proved himself.
I don't think Andrus is a better hitter than Young unless he increases his production, but there are probably hitters on the team who should be in the 2 hole over Young. I think moving Andrus to the bottom of the order is probably best unless he really improves. Maybe Andrus and Borbon in 8 and 9 holes to get their back to back speed? Or if Borbon proves himself maybe he could lead off and Andrus could hit 9th.
Hows this for an order:
Kinsler
Moreland/Napoli (1st base platoon)
Hamilton
Beltre
Cruz
Young
Torrealba
Andrus
Borbon
or
Borbon
Kinsler
Hamilton
Beltre
Cruz
Napoli/Moreland
Young
Torrealba
Andrus

I too want MYoung batting no earlier than the 6 hole. Scooby's line-up looks pretty good to me too. If Josh is in the two hole with a healthy 3.Beltre, 4.Cruz and 5.Kinsler, that looks pretty damn good to me and with his OBP wouldn't this be a killer line-up?? The the last 4 not so bad either with a 6/7 of Napoli-Young and then the catcher with Murphy/Bourbon to roll it back to the top. But a hot and healthy Kinsler can hit anywhere and when he is running, I would want him near the top as well.

I'm going to go ahead and predict that
KINSLER WILL LEADOFF ON OPENING DAY
Andrus did not prove himself worthy last year and he will probably do better in a spot with less pressure and more freedom to swing away a bit more often. There is no one else who can lead off. Therefore, Kinsler is your man.
But does Andrus really deserve even the #2 hole? Young was a better hitter than Elvis last year and Napoli and Moreland will likely be better number 2 hitters even than Young.
That's why I like the below lineup unless you don't want your #2 hole to be a platoon. Wash will probably still slot MY into the 2 hole though. If it were me I think if Napoli (against LHP) and Moreland (against RHP) perform to their potential they deserve to be there, and definitely above Andrus except for the fact that Andrus gives you speed there which is nice. But the way he hit last year I don't think he is the best option there.
Kinsler
Moreland/Napoli
Hamilton
Beltre
Cruz
Young
Torrealba
Andrus (this way you get back to back speed in Andrus and Borbon with the top of the order coming)
Borbon
or the below would be pretty badass too
Kinsler
Moreland/Napoli
Hamilton
Beltre
Cruz
Murphy
Young
Torrealba
Andrus
Joe
Joe, once again you are absolutely right. The fella who did the simulations and u agree. Kinsler, Moreland is the best, with Borbon hitting 7th.

Not sure I would want Napoli as a 2 hitter.
Philly
"Not sure I would want Napoli as a 2 hitter."
Or Moreland for that matter...

Against lefties, Napoli is something like a .300/.400/.550 hitter. Sounds pretty good in the 2 hole to me.

Which 1-2 punch does everyone prefer?
1) Andrus, Young - with Kinsler 6th to drive in more runs
or
2) Kinsler, Andrus - with Young sliding to 6th
I see pros and cons both ways, but I think I like #2 better because it lets Elvis utilize his bunting and situational hitting a little more and moves Young and his lack of speed down a little bit.
