Forum > Beltre already hurt?
That's dumb...here is the real info:
"Adrian Beltre has been diagnosed with a mild right calf strain.
It's not a big deal. Beltre probably won't run sprints for the next couple of days, but he's been cleared to take batting practice and participate in defensive drills. His calf should be back to 100 percent by the end of the week."

Except for an appendicitis with the Dodgers and the notorious injury that we won't talk about, he's been pretty healthy his entire career. After reading the Q&A with the Mariner SBNAtion guy, I'm pretty convinced he's not a contract year guy. The Mariner guy (who should have every reason to hate Beltre) was very positive instead, and said the biggest problems Beltre had were zero protection and a ballpark that is very unkind to righty pull hitters.
I'm kind of psyched. Arlington is going to be the friendliest home field he's ever had when it comes to homers. He had to really get under it to hit it out in Boston. not so here. And the Dude grew up in the DR, so he's not going to be a "it's hot" wimp.

Lighten up you nancies...I was one of the few around here vehemently against signing a guy who was fat, lazy and unproductive anytime he had a contract locked in and was frequently shouted down for it. Guy gets hurt the first day and i'm not allowed to gloat a little?

I concur. People are underestimating the ballpark effect on Beltre's career #s. Seattle AND Dodger stadium are terrible parks for his swing, he's supposed to be a great clubhouse guy, and his history says he stays healthy for 150 games a year at max effort.

There are means of adjusting for ballpark and no matter where he's played he's had two terrific years (in walk years) and a whole lotta mediocre ones.
Did they move the fences in at Chavez Ravine in 04?

His worst year by far was a contract year. Check out fangraphs to see how his numbers have been "awful" in non-contract years. He basically had two bad years in Seattle, one in his first year and one in his contract year.
If you look at his Dodgers numbers, he certainly did amazing in his contract year. However, he posted a WAR around or above 3.5 in 4 of the 6 years. His rookie year and a year smack dab in the middle of the contract were his major down years.
What is more interesting to me is that the big factor in each "good" year is his SLG. There is strong evidence that playing in TBiA will help his SLG out a lot.
The point is, of course, not that he is an amazing slugger. The guy is an amazing defender with the potential to be a powerhouse at the plate. If he has a mediocre (for him) offensive year, which I think is unlikely given his road/home splits in Seattle and the generous nature of TBIA, he will still vastly improve the team.

I still can't believe he doesn't wear a cup while playing 3B at the major league level. It's going to make me nervous every time a ball is hit on a rope to the left side of the infield.

I thot he started wearing it after... u know..

3B ~ "D-Play" ... The WoW Factor!
One day, if you'll allow an open mind, you might look back
with somewhat of an awestruck memory of Beltre's "D-Play".
He is premier at 3B. I've seen E.Mathews, McDougal, both
Boyer Bros, Brooks, Nettles, B. Bell, Ventura, Schmidt and
the underrated Brett, Boggs and Matt Williams. I'm not looking
at ANY stats, WARS etc, but only for the W-T-F was that Play.
There are others past and current... I'm talking WoW Factor only.
Beltre is certainly in these 3B Gents category of personal WOW!
A.Beltre is now a Ranger. He shores up a WoW Defense... Oh Boy!

@Hubz
I'm sorry, I can't find any saberstats for the WoW factor.
Awesome+what the hell+did he just do that = WoW?

Hey Vern ... WoW!
Yep Adam, itz sump'n as that. It's like your Jaw
can't move off the floor, so one Eye starts asking
the other Eye questions neither can answer. The
Brain connects from both Eyes input and your Hands
start clapping loudly and uncontrollably. The Jaw then
snaps back into place and Legs start jumping, as a kid.
The next thing you notice you're yelling something like:
"By Grannies, what the *** was that Vern"? The weirdest
part is, your Brain now answers you back with; "I dunno"?
So, I guess my Brain is named Vern... it's real cnfusing, but
I never get tired of that little inward social play. It's called Wow!
Your equation is much easier to understand, so thanks.

@Pull_T~ Howz Beltre's numbers working 4ya so far? Still cynical...
HubZ
Still not fond of the numbers 6, 96,000,000 and 32.
Never had the guy pegged as a bum or anything, just the money/contract length concerned me...
If I were cynical, I could just point out that he's hitting .154...early season sample sizes cut both ways...

Only 5 years left till his walk season!!!
