Forum > Rockies out on Young
I'm getting to the point where I think we're not trading MY
Skeletor
I dont think so heres the teams he cant veto to..
Cardinals- Not Interested
Astros- Might have to eat some of his contract AND take a guy like Carlos Lee but this is my favorite option Lee= Younger Vlad with more Pop
Yankees- Doubt they have interest
Twins- Wild Card
Rockies- Pulled out
Dodgers- This is a posibility but might have to pay to much of his salary for them to get involved
Angels- After the Wells trade i have no idea what Moreno will do i hope he gets involved though
Padres- This is probably a no.
Two other teams i think will get involved and Young MIGHT accept a trade to is the Cubs and A's
Martin
Thats 6 No's and two maybe's. Maybe JD can be as pursuasive as James Bond...

Me too. Because, look at it this way. We will not get anything to match his offensive output. I'm just not sure that Young will take back his demands if it lasts through Spring Training. Although, I feel like Ron Washington is going to help ease Young's worries. If he says he'll get his 600 AB's, he'll get them. Lets not forget Young was one of the guys who had Washington's back throughout his rough offseason last year.

I think if the Astros get involved Lee would surpass MYs performance. Maybe something similar to what Vlad did last year. Man I remember when we traded for him he TORE the skin off the ball.
One more thing... Would Young accept being dealt anywhere else? I mean if he requested a trade wouldnt he be more inclined to accept a deal to the A's or Cubs then stay here and pout on the bench?
Martin
Rockies are out - Astros have said they are not interested... I think Mike will be with us in spring training.

I tried to think of some pitchers with bad contracts who could bounce back we could trade for and the only ones I could come up with were Zambrano and Zito. Zambrano is a nut case so I personally wouldn't go there, but wouldn't mind it either. I think a Zito trade could be interesting if we could somehow pry one of their top pitchers away... Something along the lines of this
Rangers Trade:
MY
Hunter
Perez
Profar
Font
Giants Trade:
Zito
Cain
Although Zito's contract is huge, Cain is pretty dominant and Zito could figure it out being back in the West....or maybe I'm just crazy.
P1 Stefen
You're crazy. You can't expect Zito to suddenly regain it even though he's going from a cavernous field to the ballpark in Arlington. I also wouldn't expect Cain's divine HR/FB ratios to still be kind to him in Arlington either. I don't know if anyone will accept Font in a trade since he just had Tommy John. I say no to that trade.

This story is nonsense.
The story isn't that the Rockies are "out" on Young. That's a bad headline. The story (read it at denverpost.com) is that the Rockies are out because the Rangers are asking for too much. Or, in other words, all the Rangers have to do to restart the talks is ask for less. The Rangers would be on the hook for about half of the salary and get little back, but this would be over, and he'd be gone.
Also, note that this is leaked to the Rockies local beat guy. That's the sort of thing a team does to try and put the screws to the other team and get a better deal.
I still think it's Young and $20-24m to Colorado for Eric Young Jr and a bag of balls. The way the story read, Colorado would do that, but the Rangers want something more. The Rangers will drop their higher demands.
Scooby Dude
Maybe the Rockies are out on Young because they are in on Kinsler. And if that is true we definitley won't hear about it until it happens. I realize its a total long shot.
Joe
Still don't see it Scoob's.
At this point JD can't trade Young for a bag of balls.
Regardless of how Young has reacted recently JD has been incapable of handling the situation outside of the public view. And it's not like Young and JD don't have a history of this sort of thing. You can argue all day long that Young is being childish and make a lot of points with a lot of people but in the end JD is the BOSS which means he is supposed to be the bigger man. As the BOSS, JD should have perhaps realised that Young might take the additions of Beltre or Napoli personally and done more to prevent the backlash we are now forced to confront. Does JD "owe" it to Young? Absolutely not, but strong corporate level managers are adept at avoiding confrontations like these by taking personality issues into account.
Young will be here at the start of S.T. He will be here at the start of the season. He will be here after the trade deadline. And he will be here when the playoffs start. There simply aren't any truly viable trade options that will please all parties.
Also, just out of curiousity why did JD go after an offensive player after signing Beltre when the top priority for the off season was starting pitching? Sure we didn't get Lee, Greinke, or Garza but it's not like there weren't or still aren't proven commodities for the rotation on the market. Pavano and Francis would have improved the club more than Napoli yet I don't recall hearing any word of the FO being in on either of them. Anybody have any thoughts.

I think it's because there weren't any SP's out there who would be better than what they already have. Hard to argue for giving a bunch of money to Pavano, for instance, considering his past. And Francis - is he better than Feldman? Maybe not. I think they got 2 guys who help the offense (and remember - the offense was the main problem during the dry patches last season, not the pitching) and add needed depth in case of injury. I imagine they will try to add a TORP at the deadline if they are in contention, just like they did last year.
WWJJD?
I'm not sure that I believe that the pitchers on the market this year weren't better than what we already had. Pavano was certainly better than anyone we will put on the mound after Wilson and Lewis. Perhaps your right about the Francis/Feldman comparison but I still don't think the addition of Napoli makes as much of a difference to the lineup as adding even a middle of the rotation starter would have to the rotation. Especially if the addition of Napoli subsequently causes the departure of Young which would then be a net loss in depth to the lineup. It's almost like we're back in the late ninties when everyone new pitchers were being overpaid yet instead of following everyone else the Rangers decided to go cheap and attempt to build the championship team through offense.
Also the times when the offense struggled last year all occured during injuries to Kinsler, Cruz and Hamilton. Additional offensive depth will certainly help but again exchanging Napoli for Young doesn't actually improve the teams depth and in some areas makes it worse.
I guess my point is had JD gone after Pavano, Francis or even Bonderman instead of Napoli he would have actually addressed the weakest part of the team and avoided what has become an ugly mess.
arp
I understand where you are coming from, arp. I'm glad they didn't get Francis or Pavano, though - I bet both those guys have down years in 2011.
WWJJD?
I was all over Pavano. I felt like I was the only on on this site who was.
However, I'd certainly trade Young and $20m for a bag of balls, believe JD would too, except that I think, in the end, the correct answer might be to eat even more of the contract ($30-33m?) and thereby actually gin up a few teams bidding against each other.

"#rangers asked #rockies for "very good player'' for michael young. also, theres diff on $. rox havent heard theyre out, tho

Exactly. Young and $20-24m for Eric Young Jr or maybe Jose Lopez is still on the table. Young won't be here, regardless of conventional wisdom.
Scooby Dude
Ubaldo Jimenez is a "very good player"!
In all seriousness though I think they probably asked for Jhoulys Chacin which would require a decent amount of cash and other players/prospects. I have absolutely no reason for thinking this.

According to Troy Renck, the Rockies are out on Young.
Does this shut the door on a Michael Young trade? Seeing how everyone saw Colorado as the real only option.
