Forum > I know this won't happen but...

Hypothetically speaking of course, let's say the JD doesn't find a trade partner for MY and they somewhat smooth things over and move on. What do you think of playing Young at 2B full time and making Kinsler the full time CF? I think Kins would make a great CF and we could still do the Murph/Napoli DH platoon... Just an idea but I wanted to see what you guys thought of it...

I actually really like that idea and think it is possible, but I don't like the idea of forcing a position change of another important piece. I don't think we want to have another situation like the MY one in a few years when say...Engel Beltre is ready...then what do we do with Kins? Also, Kinsler has a similar playing style as Hambone: all out, Balls to the Wall... so I think he would hit the wall just as much as Hambone does. Also, Kinsler's injury history would make me weary of putting him out there; too many leg injuries for a second baseman scares me to put him in CF

So what you're saying is you would like to make the overall
defense weaker, even after acquiring Beltre, replacing Young,
to make that defense so much better? Really?

I think the lower risk would be in moving MY to the OF and leaving Kinsler at 2b.

But I can't imagine MY being a better OFer than David Murphy, so we'd lose defense there, too. I expect MY to be more productive at the plate than Borbon, but I think that Murphy will handle RH pitchers better than Young.

Someone please explained the 'working theory' of:
up the middle defense is STRENGTH
It's not Defense wins Championships in *Baseball...
it's up the middle D~ C. 2B, SS and CF.

I keep hearing people talk about Napoli being a platoon guy vs. LHP only. Has the organization said that that is the case? Because I think that, especially if MY gets traded, Napoli should get a ton of at-bats. He's not great against RHP, but the guy is a good enough hitter to play everyday for Scoscia, whether it be DH, or 1B. And Scoscia didn't even like him! I love Murphy, but I can't shake the feeling that if he gets a ton of DH at-bats+4th OF at-bats, he might be over exposed. AND he might be everyday OF anyway if Borbon struggles.
