Forum > Trade Ian as Lead for an Ace?
Sure. I'd do that. I'm sure JD would do that. But no one is giving you an ace for Kinsler and bits and pieces. I'd certainly call Fla about Josh Johnson and TB about David Price, and Det about Verlander, etc. But they'd all likely say no. In fact, those calls have all probably been made and those offers turned down already. Oh well.
Scooby Dude
It would obviously have to be more than bits and pieces other than Kinsler.
What about Hunter, Kinsler, and Hurley?
Would you do that?
Probably would have to add a prospect like Profar to that.
Joe
This late in the offseason a team that would aggressively pursue Kinsler would only do so because they were a contender with a hole to fill. We aren't getting an TORP until after the season begins.
Lfloyd
I think Lfloyd is right. Just isn't going to come to pass. I'd be all-in for that if an option was there.
Btw, thanks to Lfloyd for the support of my position on Young in the comments to the "Michael Young goes Nuclear" post.
Scooby Dude
Scooby,
No problem. I will be the first to admit that I am wrong. The more that comes out the more it looks like JD and MY haven't been on the same page in some time.
That being said, it looks like the Rangers are quickly running out of trade partners. We may have no choice than to go hat in hand and smooth stuff over. I honestly believe if MY, JD, Nolan, Chuck, and Wash sat down together, some sense of civility could be restored. I don't know if that will happen, but all of the reports indicate we aren't just going to dump him.
LFloyd
I dunno. I think that if JD could give Young away and save $25m (ish) in exchange for a bag of balls, he'd do it. And it would make the team better.
Scooby Dude
The problem lies with how the contract is structured. Matches posted a "breakdown" in the clubhouse earlier and it shows how we wouldn't be saving as much as it appears. Fan backlash would be even worse if we got nothing back for him. The Rangers are in a tough spot.
LFloyd
I'm not sure that is true. I realize it is structured strangely, but they still actually owe him something like $45-48m in salary and deferred comp. Get a team to pick up $25m of that, and it gets done, I think the Rockies are almost there. They really can't bring him back, at this point. THis will only get worse next year when he's a 150 PA reserve. He'll be a cancer in the room.
Scooby Dude
I don't think that would go over in the clubhouse any better than the current imbroglio with Young. It might work in a video game, but in reality you'd have an alienated Young at 2B who doesn't hit or defend as well as the guy leaving, and a shell shocked clubhouse. And you'd still have to kick in some prospects to get anyone resembling an ace to boot. I don't see it.
t ball
Getting a true Ace would smooth over a lot, though.
Scooby Dude
Giving Young a full time gig at 2nd base would solve all of his problems, he wants to stay in Texas and that would be a win win for him.
And getting a true ace would do the rest, everyone would be happy.
Joe
It's bad enough that Joe keeps harping on how Texas has "disrespected" Mike, blah blah blah. Now we get this gem! Yes - by all means - trade Kinsler for an ace - or why not even a "true ace" (as opposed to a "false ace," I suppose). Aces are easy to come by, relatively cheap, and most teams have a few of them lying around, so it totally makes sense - trade Kinsler for an ace!
Do it now, JD! Don't let us down!
WWJDD?
Am I really reading this trade Kin bit? You have too much time
on your hands. Oh, by all means keep the disgruntled Young.
Amazing... poof
HubZ
You may not realize--IAN IS AN ACE!
Goodasgoldyesmaam
Is he a true ace or a false ace??????
lol
Martin
I'm pretty sure when jd signed beltre his plan was to have young start at 2nd, he's just playing it close to the chest.
johnnyranger
Profar is not ready for MLB yet. Until, Ian stays as a CORE player.

Trade Kinsler as lead piece for an ace, Jimenez?
Young would play 2nd full time.
Moreland 1st full time.
Murphy in left against RHP.
Hamilton DH against RHP.
Napoli DH against LHP.
Something like this would be a great way to improve the club and avoid the whole problem with MY. Yeah, you downgrade at 2nd but you get an ace and Profar would be ready to play 2nd by the time MY's contract runs out.
