Forum > Most Effective Pitch in Baseball?

Is Lincecum's changeup the single most effective pitch in baseball right now from any pitcher? Of course only when he is on. Brandon Webb's old sinker was pretty awesome too, but I still think Tim's changeup is better. I don't know that much about pitchers across the leagues, but it seems like Tim's changeup is unfathomably awesome. I'm thinking out pitch here more than main course pitches like fastballs and cutters.

Who would you say has the best pitch in baseball, and maybe include a video to back it up? We all know how good Webb's sinker and Lincecum's changeup are so I won't post video on those.

I would take Mariano Rivera's cutter over any pitch I have ever seen anyone throw.

Any more votes for Rivera's cutter?

Here's a sort of cheesy video on it.

I actually had the awesome opportunity to meet Josh Hamilton this summer. I spent a couple of hours with him while he was signing autographs for my friend who works at the MLBPAA. The day we met was right after we had played the Yankees and Josh had grounded out against Rivera after Elvis led off the 9th with a triple. I actually talked to him for a few minutes about what it is like to face him. He spoke very highly of the pitch saying it was so hard to hit because of the late movement. The particular at bat we discussed was a great example because Mariano was able to bust Josh in on his hands and he hit a weak ground ball back to the mound.

Carlos Marmols slider is the most unhittable ball in baseball. especially because its usually out of the strike zone but .146 .262 .171 .433 is the line vs his slider and he throws it 57% of the time. He also has a 16 k/9 in ratio

Rivera's cutter, Adam Wainwright's curveball, Ubaldo's 2-seamer, Liriano's slider definitely, Shaun Marcum, Tim Lincecum, and King Felix's changeups are ridiculous too. Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay's cutters are salty, too.

If I have to vote for one, I'll go with Mo's cutter

Neftali's fastball with two strikes above the belt.

My vote goes to Rivera's cutter. He has been the most effective pitcher in baseball, with more then 500 innings pitched. His 2.25 career ERA is the lowest of any active pitcher. Not to say the cutter is the games most effective pitch, only to say that Rivera's is.And, he shows no signs of slowing down.
