Forum > Breaking News: Rangers Still Exploring Trade for Micheal Young, Rockies a Possible Destination
I saw that this morning. Maybe this is a "where there is smoke, there's fire" situation.
P.S. I imagine Scooby will be pleased to hear this.
LFloyd
Have not had a chance to read the story yet, but indeed I am pleased to see this Forum thread!
Scooby Dude
No problem guys,i think since vlad hasnt took the orioles offer, he is holding out to see what the Rangers do.... Rumors are that he still has $8 million offer to play somewhere else..
Garrett
I am so tired of this...what is it the third of fourth round?
JD....shit or get off the freaking pot.
Joe
Also Garrett, please control the length of your titles in the future, just looks really bad on the page to have a 4 or 5 line title.
Cordially,
Joe

I hope this is not true I just can't stand to hear this again!! I don't which bugs me more this rumor or being stuck in the house all week. I just don't think this would be good PR for the rangers with the fringe fans & I think it would be bad for the clubhouse & bad for Wash he would lose one of his biggest backers. I just don't think trading young & paying part of his contract makes any sense why would you pay the leader of your team to go away? If someone took the whole contract I could understand it then I still would not like it at all but it would make sense long term. My thought is if the rangers want to be in the same breath with the Yankees & red sox they need to keep there star players until they retire & not sticking it to them like they did to Pudge & are trying to do to young. Crap like this is why the rangers always have & always will have trouble signing big name free agents. If I were a player on the market I would say why go the that place & get dumped on? I wouldn't I would go some place that I knew I would be there for the term of the deal. Also they have been wanting depth & young gives them that this deal makes them alot worse team IMO. Why strive to get depth that young & Napoli give you then trade it away to sign Vlad that just makes no sense to me.

@ Joe, yeah i understand that most of my titles on these forums are a little too long, but in the future i will make sure that they are respectable
Garrett
Garrett
Garrett,
Just an FYI, I'm not positive but I believe that is jdb using Joe's screen name again.
LFloyd
Lfloyd,
That was me and not jdb.
However, I wonder whether that is actually Garrett and not jdb saying STFU.
I didn't think that it was all that out of line to ask that the titles be shorter, and whether it is Garrett or jdb I got a good laugh out of the "on second thought..." lol
If it was Garrett who got pissed I complained about his long titles I just want to reiterate to you, Garrett, that I hate when you use long freaking titles and its annoying as hell. That is why Joey says in the forum post form that you should watch your length on the titles.
Thank you.

Joe
If that is the case, I think you are reading a little too close to the rules. I guess I don't see the point in arguing over something arbitrary like length of forum titles.
LFloyd
I agree arguing about the length fourm titles is a stupid waste of time if that is all you have to do you have alot of time on your hands. Joe my suggestion would be let Joey run his site how he sees fit. The last time I checked you just post stuff here but you act you run this forum that kind of aggervates me.

One idea would be to try to move Young in exchange for Street, since Street is also overpaid ($7 mil for 2011), and TX could kick in some cash to even things out. I don't know if Col has anyone else in the pipeline who could close, though. Moving Street into the closer spot would allow TX to put Feliz back in the rotation, which would give them some more depth there.
I don't know who else Col has that would help us, and who would be actually available.
Just an idea. Trying to make sense of this rumor, since it keeps coming up again and again.
WWJDD?
@mike- I understand where you are coming from, but using the red sox and yankees as the model for keeping players until they retire is problematic.
1- even with new ownership, the rangers can't afford to continue paying all of their players for past production rather than current production. It might be "feel good" but its bad business.
2- The Red Sox don't do this. They trade and release their stars with great willingness. The only vets they keep are guys they can't replace, and generally do this at very low prices (ie. Varitek). Stars they gave up on early: Manny, Nomar, Renteria, Damon (a bit different), etc.
3- The yankees are paying for valuing character and past resume over current production. Jeter and ARod already killed them last year, and it will only get worse.

@aggiecurt05 When I mentioned the red sox I was thinking Ortiz, Varitek, & Wakefield. You do make good points on the other players that they have let go. I just really don't think this team could sustain losing Micahel Young that is jsut my opinion.
Mike Walters
@mike- You certainly have a legit case. I guess it remains to be seen (and it seems that the management is intent on finding out), but the picture we've been given is that Young is the guy responsible for creating the clubhouse environment that has made us love this version of the rangers.
@WWJD- the idea of a Houston Street trade is intriguing to me. Perhaps an Eric Young plus Houston STreet for a Michael Young plus Omar Beltre trade would make all parties get what they need.

A report just came out from a reporter in CO saying the Rangers haven't reopened trade talks with them.
http://blogs.denverpost.com/rockies/2011/02/04/rangers-young-talk-percolating-but-rox-not-involved-yet/5530/#
Also I know the Mets have been mentioned as a possible destination for MY, but with the news that their owner might have to pay back $300 mil, I don't see that as realistic for MY. I believe this would make Johan Santana available at the trade deadline though.
LFloyd
@LFloyd, The rockies are "sitting back" as of now, but he mentions the rangers are exploring every possibility because young has "no clear role" in texas.
Garrett
this sounds like standard local beat reporter talk. True? Perhaps, but if they are in discussions, it behooves the Rockies for the Rangers brass to feel like CO isn't motivated to make a move unless they are blown away. So, I call BS on this report.
aggiecurt05
The one thing that is clear is that Colorado can't take on much of his salary. If we sent MY and $6 mil to CO and got Eric Young Jr. in return, that is a bad trade. I know MY is overpaid, I know he is bad on D. But if we are going to send him to CO with cash we need at least a top prospect in return. If we trade MY as a salary dump and receive little to nothing in return other than the money we save, I would (hesitantly) be ok with that. But there is no sense in trading him, sending cash with him, and only getting back Eric Young Jr.
LFloyd
I really like the idea of getting Street, and they would have to send Jose Lopez too, but that is only about $10-11 mil, so maybe Lopez and Aaron Cook is what Rosenthal says would work. Cook makes over $9 mil with Lopez over $3mil and throw in a little extra for MYs 2012 and 2013 season and it may work. Cook could easily be a #5 at worst and maybe #4 if he pitches like he did in 08 or 09. I done want Lopez, so maybe we could flip him for a bag of baseballs or some rosin bags or something.
Ryan from Waco
I think they'd probably like to move Street's salary, but I bet they would want Ogando in return - which would probably be a dumb move for TX.
As some others have remarked, if it's a salary dump, then Colorado isn't a good partner. If it's a trade, then Texas has to kick in so much cash that it would probably make the trade pointless. So unless there's something we don't know, this rumor doesn't make much sense.
WWJDD?
All of you who are making these immature, 12 yr old remarks need to grow up. Seriously.
Garrett
Per Ken Rosenthal, the rangers are reaching an "advanced stage" in trade talks with Young http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Texas-Rangers-again-discuss-trading-Michael-Young-to-Colorado-Rockies-020411
