We all know he is fat and washed up, but is he a liar??? Texas offered him $8M??? Haven't heard this one time. Surprised he could stop eating long enough to even spit that lie out.

Texas could have offered him 8 million knowing he would not take it. Why? Who knows. To run the price up for another team in the running?

There's a million possible reasons why they would "offer" someone lots of cash knowing that person would never take it.

Maybe Texas' offer is the reason why the Cards ended up paying him such a dumb amount.

He's just sore we whipped his team in the ALCS.

Now I really can't wait to watch him stumbling around the SL outfield...he won't be able to play more than 100 games in the outfield and will be lucky if he doesnt go on the DL more than twice. His old, out of shape body won't be able to handle it.

Jeez... what Scooby said. Berkman wasn't saying that the Rangers have a bad team, or that they are a bunch of a-holes, or that they didn't deserve to win last year. What he said was that Texas got hot at the right time, rode on the back of Cliff Lee in the playoffs, and got to the WS ahead of everyone's expectations.

How can anyone argue with that? He's right! Whether or not TX will be good again in 2011 is a good question. He thinks they won't - and probably history is on his side. We're about to find out, though :)

I am not crazy about Berkman saying things that might hurt Texas. But he is a great guy and deserves the benefit of the doubt.

I think we need to recognize the difference between "hate" and "player hate." Berkman is by all measures a good dude. He was just giving his honest opinion. Now his opinion pisses me off, ergo I now "player hate" Lance. If we ever play him I am going to yell louder at him and that typical fan stuff. Now real hate, I save that for D-bags like ARod.

I think those of you who are familiar with me know that my loyalty lies with the Rangers. However, I did grow up in Houston (up until high school) and always wish them well. Lance Berkman has always been a good dude and has quite the sense of humor. During one game (against the Cubs maybe?), fans were taunting him and threw some twinkies at him. What did he do? He picked up a pack a put it in his back pocket. In his next AB, he jacks a homerun and then eats the twinkies. I don't know where his comments came from, what question was asked, or exactly what he said. I don't really care. He's now playing for St. Louis and was on one of their local radio stations. Was he really supposed to praise the Rangers? I think as much as anything else he might just be bitter that Houston had no interest in resigning him and is taking his frustration out on the whole state.

Whatever.

@ Dave H: it was actually a Houston radio station so it's not like he was talking to St Loius fans, he knew he would be heard by more Texas baseball fans, either Rangers or Astros, than anyone, so if he deserves everybit of the "player hate" that he gets

Cut it out, Joe. What are you, 8? Being a fan doesn't mean one has to be supportive of everything associated with your team and hateful towards everyone else. Berkman is certainly not a bad guy. He wasn't even being critical about anyone personally - he was just saying what everyone is baseball is thinking about the Rangers - can they do it again, and can they do it without Cliff Lee ("it" being go to the World Series)?

CJ said some stuff, but the real answer will be the 2011 season.
