If the Rangers wanted to pay Vlad $8 million, wouldn't they have just picked up the mutual option months ago?

If it is the Rangers it is a 4 million guaranteed and 4 million if he gets more than 500 PA's. This would be a way for Vlad to save face since the Rangers would have no desire to use him for 500 PA's unless there were major injuries to our big bats.
