Forum > Opening Day Lineup
We'll likely be facing Lester, which means Napoli will start in place of Mitch. My lineup would have MY hit farther down. The top of the order should be Andrus-Kinsler, or vice-versa. I also think Beltre should hit 5th behind Cruz. Nellie will punish anyone who won't give Hamilton something to hit.
But your order is probably closer to what Wash will throw out there. I can't argue the man's success. They could score more runs with my lineup, but not really have the chemistry (I guess) that comes from Young's apparent position of leadership. I think he's only the 6th or 7th best hitter on the roster, maybe even 8th. But hey, just win baby.

Torrealba doesnt hit lefties, Napoli does and Moreland probably does. If it is a road game, Young doesnt hit well on the road.

There will be a player that'll start slow, say 1for15.
That's when the toying w/lineup starts. Always happens.
Get every player engaged w/PR, PH and some small ball.
Will Face bunt more this year, as the #2 guy? Move runners?
Yep, watch for the usual slow starts at the plate.
That opens the gate for Ron's lineup moves.

Opening Day against LP

Moreland has to be at 1st and Napoli has to be at catcher, no question about it.

Treanor will catch on opening day if CJ pitches.

Touche. Good point. That leaves Napoli at 1st on Opening Day.

Wash and Nolan have said that The Face will be the opening day DH. I'm assuming Lester will start for the Red Sox. What is your opening day lineup against the tough lefty, including the Rangers starting pitcher? Here's my best guess as to what the Rangers will run out there.
1. Andrus SS
2. Young DH
3. Hamilton LF
4. Beltre 3B
5. Cruz RF
6. Kinsler 2B
7. Moreland 1B
8. Torrealba C
9. Borbon CF

If I could pick the lineup (which would also mean that pigs would be flying) here's what I'd do:
1. Andrus SS
2. Young DH
3. Hamilton CF
4. Beltre 3B
5. Cruz RF
6. Kinsler 2B
7. Napoli 1B
8. Torrealba C
9. Murphy LF

I think they got Napoli to face lefties, especially tough lefties so as much as I hate that Moreland's development might be slowed some by losing some at bats against tough lefties, IMO Napoli is a better bet against them at this point offensively. Actually writing out a lineup makes it even tougher to figure out how everyone is going to get at-bats. If injuries occur we are in great shape with our depth, but assuming everyone stays healthy as others have been saying in other posts, splitting the at bats between Murphy, Moreland, Napoli, and Borbon will be difficult. I guess injuries are inevitable though at some point so we're likely to be glad we have all of these guys when the injury bug hits.
