If the Rangers trade Michael young and were to sign Vlady before the Orioles do, would you be for it? Would it be a win for the Rangers seeing how they're getting Vlad for about a 1/4 of what they'd have Young for, plus what comes back in the trade? Which lineup would you prefer?

Give me MY. I think he will learn how to take the same intense preparation he had for both aspects of the game and focus more on hitting. I think MY will have a very good year at the plate.

Actually, Young should not DH much anyway. Young doesn't hit on the road. Napoli does. I think Napoli, on balance, will get more at bats than Young. When you put Napoli in the batting order and consider his flexibility and that his OBP is as good as Vlad's, I see no reason for Vlad.

Among other things, Young could play when infielders are injured, or if Moreland goes to the outfield if an outfielder gets injured. It is a certainty that there will be injuries, probably 200 at bats of injuries somewhere.

Some argue that Blanco should be used if there are injuries. I do not agree, if Young is on the team. Young's combination of offense and defense is better than Blanco's, just pray that Andrus is not the one who is injured. If Napoli is a better DH, which he is, and if Young cannot even beat out Blanco as a utility infielder, then YES, get rid of his salary.

On balance, however, once you consider injuries, I see that it is inevitable that Young will get 400 at bats or more, 200 of which come from injuries, not from taking at bats from better, heathy players. On a championship team, if he gets 400 at bats, Young is worth having, given that you would have to heavily subsidize his salary if traded.

If no one gets injured, consider him to be insurance.

If you can find a trade where you will not have to subsidize his salary, trade him.

Most likely, Young stays, and we will be thankful for it.
