Forum > Michael Young and Prospects to the Rockies for Ubaldo Jimenez??

Just an idea but very plausible ...
To the Rockies...Michael Young, Martin Perez, and Engel Beltre plus cash.
To the Rangers ...Ubaldo Jimenez.

Thoughts??

January 26, 2011 at 11:39 AM | Unregistered CommenterTyRouse

Um, yes please.

January 26, 2011 at 11:52 AM | Unregistered CommenterScooby Dude

I'd love this. I lived in Colorado this summer and got to see some Rockies games. Ubaldo is legit when he is right. He is inconsistent, but his stuff is wonderful. I don't think the Rockies would make this trade prior to the season, but maybe.

Not very likely, but I'm all for it.

Rockies would not trade their ace after they JUST signed their two superstar mvps to long term deals

January 26, 2011 at 12:23 PM | Unregistered CommenterMartin

This trade would never happen. But it'd be nice.

January 26, 2011 at 1:04 PM | Unregistered CommenterTaylor

I never said it'd happen..I said thoughts?? This has just as much merit as the Josh Johnson stuff.

January 26, 2011 at 2:03 PM | Unregistered CommenterTyRouse

And the Rockies would do this why? Because they want the Rangers to have Ubaldo Jiminez? Why would they want Michael Young?

January 26, 2011 at 2:18 PM | Unregistered Commenterrbt

Maybe because they've been linked to him all winter to play 2nd. They have no farm system and are strapped for cash..

January 26, 2011 at 2:21 PM | Unregistered CommenterTyRouse

We would be giving up too much. They would still want to include Jose Lopez in that deal. They would probably ask for MY Holland Perez and Scheppers. That would be a bad deal for us Holland is already a #5 starter type and perez scheppers will be torp of the very near future. To give that up for a solid number 2 starter would be down right foolish. Why not sign Bonderman or another middle of the rotation type and wait for the ASB?

January 26, 2011 at 2:52 PM | Unregistered Commentergtownfan

1) Jimenez is not a "solid #2". He's a true TORP.

2) I don't know WHY the Rockies want Young, but they do. They have concrete interest in him. Why is therefore not very important.

January 26, 2011 at 3:08 PM | Unregistered CommenterScooby Dude

Jimenez would be under contract through 2013. Michael Young will be close to being done by then. Holland I'd be willing to give up, along with another prospect to make this happen. But on the other hand I'd rather Josh Johnson.

I'd be willing, but I doubt the Rockies would be. Substitute Kinsler for Young, and keep the cash. I'm still willing, and the Rockies might be.

January 26, 2011 at 3:20 PM | Unregistered Commenterarnrob

Kinsler is going to have a comeback year. So cut salary, make room for other potential moves at the trade deadline, or in free agency in the next year or two. Do not give up Scheppers or Perez.

might aswell trade craig gentry for strasburg, harper, and jesus. just as likely

Not very likely! But Mike Young to St.Louis for Colby Rasmus continues to seam possible.

"Craig to play more third base
4:25
PM ETSt. Louis Cardinals Top EmailShare St. Louis Cardinals skipper Tony LaRussa will give Allen Craig time at third base in attempt to increase his value to the club and get him more at-bats, reports B.J. Rains of FoxSportsMidwest.com. Craig and starting third baseman David Freese are both right-handed hitters, so a platoon situation is not likely in the offing, but with the addition of Lance Berkman in the outfield, Craig's role could otherwise be limited to pinch-hitting duties.

With Berkman a switch hitter and Jon Jay a left-handed bat, Craig's best bet for playing time is at third base when Freese gets a day off, and in the outfield when LaRussa, who is apparently dead set on sitting centerfielder Colby Rasmus against many left-handed starters.

Craig figures to battle Tyler Greene and Jay for a roster spot, but it's feasible that all three make the club out of spring training."

Troy, the Nats could never fool me on that one. They don't have Jesus on their roster.

I had proposed this trade in another thread...I also dont know why the Rockies want Young so bad but hey...do it only if they are willing to give us Jimenez. Then we pay 30% of Young's salary plus send them either (a)Scheppers, (b)Strop and Erlin, or (c)Holland.

Scooby...by TORP it means top of the rotation pitcher, that being a #1 or #2 starter. So yes, a #2 pitcher is a TORP.

January 26, 2011 at 5:42 PM | Unregistered CommenterALL IN FOR JOHNSON

The only + way to trade MY is for another dump-salary player then look to the Mets. Preferably, Santana, more realistically Beltran. And most include cash with Beltran and a starter prospect like Beltre , Kirkman or Hurley. Forget Jimenez - for 2011 way too costly so do the next best thing- stretch out Neftali to 33/game TOR. And hope Ugando or de los Santos - what? Yes, MdlS can suddenly emerge as lights-out Closer.

I don't think this trade is THAT crazy, especially if the Rangers take back Jose Lopez. But it wont happen at this time because the Rockies hope to compete, and aren't looking to trade their ace.

What's the likelihood of trading MY to LA Dodgers along with others for Kershaw? He goes home to Calif, is a two way everyday player and the Dodgers can't be that excited about Uribe and Carroll at 2B, can they? What others do the Dodgers need in the pot to justify sending Kershaw home to Texas? Just thinking..

Probably zero LAD is super broke and Kershaw is one of the best young pitchers in the game Texas doesnt have what LA wants and the Dodgers are not in rebuild mode their trying to compete and are not going to trade away their Ace

Guys like Kershaw simply don't get traded because they are really good, really cheap, and controllable. They get traded later when they near their free agency. It doesn't matter how poor a team is - when a team realizes it needs to be dismantled, it dumps over priced veterans and superstars.

Case in point, notice last year that when Houston finally gave up, they got rid of Berkman and Oswalt, not Pence, not Wandy, not Bourne, not Johnson, not Castro, etc. This is why Texas had a chance at getting Wells, but not Josh Johnson, to just name some names that are bandied about here.

Go back to the Kazmir debacle years ago - that's when I think GMs realized that you just don't trade young talented guys, unless you are getting young talent back in return.

So as much as we'd love to have Kershaw in Texas, it ain't happening. If it did, it would cost the farm - literally.

This, of course, is why Matt Kemp can be had. He just got expensive and has only 2 years left of team control.
