Forum > CC Sabathia a free agent after this season

If he pitches like he did last year there's no reason why he would'nt opt out of his contract after the season ($92M/4yr after this season) to sign a bigger deal.
Could the Rangers have a better chance to sign him, specially if the Yankees dont win this season?

CC has come out and said he won't opt out, but that doesn't mean much. If he opts out he is going to want more money the he got the first time. He might push for 7 yrs 160 mil. I don't think he will risk pissing off all of Yankeeland.

No way I would want a 31 year old obese pitcher for anything approaching 20M a season.

He will stay in NY but he will opt out though to get more money. The only big FA I might see the Rangers pursue next year is Prince Fielder and thats only if Mitch Moreland performs poorly this season.

Prince Fielder? Good lord...why the obsession with paying obese players 20M?

As many innings as that guy throws each year, and as much stress as he puts on that arm, and as out of shape as he is about 90% of the time - he's a ticking time bomb. I think everyone is kinda shocked that he hasn't blown out his arm by now - but don't worry, it's coming!
