It is a challenge to obtain a top starter least of all an Ace without selling the whole farm. It is much more logical or plausible to look for a fit that has the potential for 25 out of 30 solid quality starts. For remaining free agents Bonderman rates highest on the list. Pedro (if he still wants to pitch), Bartolo or Freddy would all fit that dimension, all three X-Aces that still carry themselves as such even if the arm is not what it was. On the mound SAVVY counts a lot. If a real financial gamble is taken trade for Johan now, even if he may not pitch until May, trade for now willing to take on the whole salary for a serviceable starter like Feldman or Harrison but do not wait. Santana will be back but too late for the Mets but not for the Rangers. The Mets absolutely need to create salary flexibility and may be agreeable AND may be inclined not to want to ship Johan off to the Yanks. In the same clear salary, Edwin Jackson would be a good fit. Another in that same thought, though with a lot more risk are X-Rangers draftees: Barry Zito, or Thomas Diamond if for one his FB can bounce back to 88 mph and the other learn that command and control are the key like Colby did. For a local flavor, check on the availability of Homer.

Lets just sign Millwood for 12Mill a year... HA!
No but maybe the Rangers should sign him. Id rather have him then most other FA pitchers and he pitched great in Texas his last year here.

And wtf Pavano!?? I thought he was looking for 3/33 not 2/17 I woulda done that!

Is this the real Martin or jdb? If you are the real Martin you can't actually be serious about Millwood, right?

If you are, we have better options already in our system. Its not about signing a FA, its about getting good pitchers.

"I'm happy with the mount of talent we have in our pitching prospects. When you look at Michael Kirkkman, Derek Holland and Tommy Hunter, they have the talent you're looking for in your starting pitchers. It's a matter of them going to Spring Training and being consistent. It will really come down this spring who we are most comfortable with."

This is from Nolan Ryan on TR Sullivan's site. I like the mention of Michael Kirkman as a starter possibility.

Shut the hell up jdbitch (what the hell kind of name is Enos?). I think we've all said stupid shit before except for those of us who never venture to say anything but rather simply insult others. I can't wait for your pathetic response to my once--in-a-lifetime exception of my general rule of ignoring you.

Scooby Dude,

I can't remember if it was the same game in which I called the Hamilton home run at Camden Yards as I went to two or three games in a row in Baltimore, but I saw Kirkman's major league debut (I think it was that same game because I remember we got beat like 10-5 or something). He struck out the side, it was badass, and he seemed totally composed doing it. I liked his poise, it sort of compares I think to Moreland's steely eyed demeanor in the World Series, and it was his debut. Further, those were the same hitters that tagged Cliff Lee for like 7 runs that series when his back was hurting. I was there for that too.

He started them off with off speed for a couple pitches and then would sneak his nice mid-90's fastball up on them. I also saw him pitch in the ALCS game 5 at Yankee Stadium after Wilson's blister got to him, not bad at all. I just worry about his arm strength and endurance as he was shut down with dead arm near the end of the regular season last year. I think he could easily be a solid number 3 some day but I just worry that he will wear down over a long season of starting, but you have to start somewhere in building up big league endurance. I'm all for giving him a shot if he wins it in ST.
