Forum > Who needs the DH?
Personally I love the DH. I hate watching national league games because of the pitcher batting. I love watching pitchers actually get hits, but some guys barely attempt to swing. I am not saying we should do away with the national league style, just that it isn't for me. That's what is great about baseball. I grew up watching the Rangers and they had a DH so that is what I like. Others feel the exact opposite and yet our game is able to entertain both points of view.

I am a true believer in the DH.
It's not so much that watching Pitchers hit in crucial situations is a beat down (though it is). What I hate about NL baseball is the way having a pitcher in the 9-hole impacts the offense of the guys hitting 6-7-8. Basically, if you get past #6, you can just never show #7 and #8 anything to hit, and work around them to get to the pitcher. As a consequence, those hitters cannot afford to be properly patient. A 2-out single from the #8 hitter has minimal value, so back-of-the-order guys spend more time trying to jack the ball into the stands. When the #6 hitter gets on, teams don't play for a crooked-number rally, they play for the one run inning, because the pitcher's spot is sitting there to shut down the inning. It's boring.

Interesting story about the DH position by Big Time Timmy Kurkjian.

I hope both leagues keep this format and not try to make it universal because I like the discrepancy.
