Forum > So who wants to start the Wandy Rodriguez/Mark Buehrle Trade discussions?

Anyone?

After looking at some stats the two are pretty similar....Rodriguez isn't too expensive, has a better K/9 ratio (almost 2x higher) though he does walk more people. But I think I like Wandy a little better because of his stuff, and Buehrle. because of his experience. I think for our team I'd take Buehrle. Really seems like a wash for me.

I say trade for buerhle and put him at catcher. Your thoughts Joe?

Alright, stop with the catcher jokes.

And would Houston really trade with the Rangers

The above Scooby Dude post is jdb again. Joey, you've got another IP address to block.

count me in the "uninformed" camp regarding Rodriguez. Where does this guy fit in terms of "TORP" comparatively to other names bandied about on the interwebs? I know he's not Greinke or Josh Johnson, but is he a good bet to outperform Garza? Is there still "untapped" potential with Rodriguez that would allow him to become a true cy young caliber pitcher?

Wandy scares me. The guy is filthy one start and a punching bag the next. His team isn't very good so that could account for some of the inconsistency. I do think Houston would trade him to us but the demand is likely high right now. I also don't like borderline pitchers moving from the NL to the AL at all. Buehrle is great, but Chicago isn't letting him go unless Peavy comes back very strong and Chris Sale proves he can pitch in the bigs. Buehrle is someone Chicago can move mid season to fill a hole they have because they are a solid team that will challenge for the AL Central next season.

They say the first third of the season is to figure out what you've got. We know we've got a sufficient number of starters, but we don't know if enough of them are good enough. Let's find out. If they are, we've got the pitching without giving up other assets. If not, there will be starters available when other teams with a good starter realize that their team is not going anywhere. One other thought: If we could make do with Davis at first and Gentry in center, we would have the best defensive team anywhere and free up Borbon and Moreland to be included in a package for a starter.

Davis is lunchmeat. Forget him. We tried to get by with him at 1B last year and saw how that worked out. Let's agree not to do that again. Gentry interests me as a 5th OF and RH platoon for Borbon. That alignment would also give us a premium-speed PR in either Borbon or Gentry every day.

Scooby, don't be so quick to give up on Davis. I know he hasn't workout lately but we have a horrible track record of giving up on 1B prospects too early. Look at what Carlos Pena and Adrian Gonzalez have been able to do.

I think we've given Davis A LOT of chances. He has too many holes in his swing. Lunchmeat.

I admit Davis has holes, but it's not like he never hit in the bigs, he just hasn't been consistent. He had a great '08 and the end of '09 was not bad either. His glove is top notch and he is still young. Carlos Pena has tons of holes in his swing but he plays great D and he is prone to wonderful hot streaks. Chris Davis may never hit for .300 but I can see him as a similar player to Pena.

Davis has succeeded once and failed twice. Unfortunately, in that order. By "lunchmeat" I assume SD to mean that he has no chance of future success. I don't know that, and I don't know how SD can. Many of his outs are painful to watch, which I think makes us harder on him. But my take is that he not so much has holes in his swing as he doesn't know when to swing. If that is right, further experience and coaching could improve him. He is so good in the field that he wouldn't need to become a hitting star to be an asset as a regular. Does he have an option left?

Its to soon to give up on CD. Im not saying hes guna be the super star we all thought he was guna be in 08 but if used vs RHP his stats would look ALOT better .

vs RHP as LHB 212 616 571 149 35 1 30 85 4 2 45 187 .261 .315 .483 .798 276 12 0 0 0 6 3 .336 110

vs LHP as LHB 127 256 235 51 12 2 9 33 0 0 14 91 .217 .266 .400 .666 94 2 3 0 4 0 2 .302 76

I am willing to give Davis one more shot. I would really prefer he be '08 CD again.

If not, then he is jettisoned from the Rangers plans. Forever.

Rodriquez would be solid as a #3- solid K factor with less than 9.0 hits per 9 but at what cost? Holland? Who has a much better FB, at least + 5 mph. So turn to ChiSox- but not Buehrle- though he is a a winner on a marginal FB.ie Lee - 5 mph but Jackson. EJ is 4+ years younger with a top out 97 FB with great movement that the Sox want to move to clear salary. EJ will not be an ace but he will not lack the arm to be one.

I'm still haunted by Danks for McCarthy, so trading Holland for one of these guys scares me to death. I say roll the dice and see if Holland develops as a Ranger. A trade can be looked at again in June or July.
