Forum > Billy Butler? Idea.

Some say the Royals should trade him. Would the Rangers have any interest?

Pros:
*Right-handed, everyday first baseman
*.857 OPS last season
*Only 24 years old
*Decent 20 HR power
*Still developing
*Would instantly be the best Rangers 1B since Mark Teixeira

Cons:
*Would require top prospects to acquire
*Entering arbitration
*Slightly below average in the field
*Big, slow guy
*Not a pitcher (of course)

What would it take to get him?

This would be my first offer. It would probably take more (they could ask for one of our pitching prospects), but who knows.

Derek Holland
Mitch Moreland
Engel Beltre

Since when is "right handed" the very first pro to list for a first baseman?

Butler is a nice player, and would help the team, but first of all, KC isn't going to trade *everybody* just because they gave up Greinke (in face, there was a story about how they were grabbing prospects now to make a push for being competitive in 2013). From what I've read, Butler is a guy that they have labeled as "untouchable."

Yeah, it's pretty funny how all of a sudden KC trades one guy who had demanded a trade and threatened to no-show at spring training and all of a sudden it means they're trading everybody.

That said, they do have several 1B/DH types in additon to Butler - Kila Ka'aihue, Eric Hosmer, Clint Robinson - so maybe they could be approached about one of them. But Butler won't be the one they'll listen on (and you can forget Hosmer too).

I like Moreland as much as Butler. Pass.

not worth the prospects or time to get this guy...we need pitching. our line-up is one of the best in the league...

Why give up Moreland Holland AND Beltre when Moreland could be just as good if not better that Butler soon? Thats way to much for someone whos first pro is that he can bat right handed?

If you're gonna trade those guys, you might as well throw in 2 or 3 lower level-high reward types and go after Fielder, because Butler wouldn't be worth it imo
