I say take a flyer on Colon, Francis, and Bonderman all with low base and high incentives and just see if any pan out. then begin to prepare to try and make a deal @ the deadline in July....My favorite of those are of course Josh Johnson....Just go overwhelm the Marlins! Go Rangers

If I were an Angels fan or wanted the A's to be winners I would want Scooby to be the Ranger GM.

I'm certainly with you in terms of Pettitte's playoff history and readily agree that even at his advanced age for a pitcher he has pitched extremely well during the regular season. Plus we would get the added benefit of sticking it to the Yanks one more time. But unless Pettitte would be willing to accept 8 mil a year I just can't see how the payroll remains flexible enough to go after the front line starters we all envision JD acquiring at the deadline.

I believe Pettitte gets Lee type money for a several reasons. First off he has openly said he's ready to retire. You can take that with a grain of salt and argue that it's just a manuever to draw money out of the Yankees but the truth is it's pretty effective. Second, the Yanks have lost out on every major free agent in the market this winter while their three major W.S. competitors made significant improvements. The Yanks have to make a move and they know it. Finally and more importantly however is that Pettitte knows the Yanks are desperate. If Pettitte really wants to come back and pitch next year all he has to do is be seen having lunch with Nolan somewhere in Austin or the Metroplex or let it leak that he and CJ Wilson exchanged text messages and the Yankees front office will drop their pants and empty their wallets just to keep him from signing with Texas. I agree that no sane organization would pay Pettitte that type of salary but the Steinbrenners are far from sane.

The Yankees are almost out of options. They will offer at least 20 mil to AP. It may not happen until mid season, but if he comes back it will be in pin stripes.

Maybe hes delaying coming back until after Spring Training. That's what I would do if I had that much leverage.
