Forum > Why Not a Car-Go Deal for Rangers?

I just saw that the Rockies are about to extend Carlos Gonzalez for 7 years at a little over $11 million per year. This for a stud, 25 year old, premium position player. If the Beltre thing doesn't happen, which I'm starting to think is likely, why wouldn't the Rangers do something like this with 1 or more of Hamilton, Cruz, Kinsler, Andrus? Seems like if we are itching to spend money why not lock up the heart of our lineup at such a discounted rate. Who knows how much crazier salaries will get in the next year or 2? Is this something their agents wouldn't listen to? (I think Car-Go is a Boras guy so not sure this would be a good reason) Are the Rangers scared enough by the injury history of Hamilton, Cruz, and Kinsler that they are afraid to committ long-term before they have to? Am I just being impatient and it makes no sense for them to do this until after Beltre signs somewhere else so that there are no other high-priced free agents left? Any thoughts on if the Rangers would do this and on whether you all think they should?

I'm still waiting for them to lock those 3 guys up. Not sure why it hasn't happened yet. It sure would give me a better idea of what our financial situation is and who we can and cannot afford to spend money on in the future.

Way too early for Andrus, and wouldn't do it for Josh (I can't overlook his age and injury history, as well as the distinct possibility that he could destroy his life again, plus he's almost certain to perform at least a little worse in 2011 than 2010, so now would be "buying high", so to speak). Buti would love to see if the Rangers couldn't lock down Cruz and CJ Wilson, and maybe Kinsler too.
