Forum > Rangers Reach Agreement with Adrian Beltre?

I just read this in a post from this mornings thread,:from Jamie Newberg
Very roughly translated by Google: “According to reports [from] José Luis Montilla [of] Piodeportes.com portal, Dominican third baseman Adrian Beltre reached an agreement [for] $96 million over six years with the Texas Rangers, [according to] sources [who wish to] remain anonymous. The signing took place around dawn today. The [club] may be [waiting to make it] official until it has completed the review of rigor (Physical). I just wanted to pass it along... One thought if this is true: Way Overpaid!

Wow. I would really like to see if this is true.

@Lfloyd, im pretty sure that it is go to that website and the report is on front page

Grant is reporting it is false. But screw that guy.

January 2, 2011 at 10:53 AM | Unregistered CommenterFullerTron

@FullerTron, where did you see that grant said its false? link?

January 2, 2011 at 10:54 AM | Unregistered CommenterGarrett

If this is true, that money better be deferred and the 6th year better be an option.

January 2, 2011 at 10:58 AM | Unregistered CommenterLfloyd

16 mil a year could be spent on worst things, but for 6 years?

F That.

January 2, 2011 at 11:01 AM | Unregistered CommenterK-Mart

It better be bc that's way too much money.

January 2, 2011 at 11:02 AM | Unregistered CommenterGarrett

I don't know guys, but I'm starting to think it's true. The sources in Dominican would be first to know

January 2, 2011 at 11:03 AM | Unregistered CommenterGarrett

Here's what Evan Grant said via Twitter (take it for what you will):

Source: DR report is untrue. Rangers have no agreement with Beltre. Editor's note: DR reports can be exceptionally gossipy and unreliable.

Thanks Tyler, we now can blow this topic up.....

January 2, 2011 at 11:10 AM | Unregistered CommenterGarrett

I'm not ready to believe this one way or the other. Felix getting the Cy Young was broken by a Venezuelan(?) report so it's not ridiculous that these guys would have the scoop. The more interesting part of this, to me, is that, if true, it seems the Rangers are willing to do what it takes to bring in guys who can help the club win now, even if it means having some less than desirable contracts in 2015 and on.

January 2, 2011 at 11:29 AM | Unregistered CommenterFullerTron

And i think the contract is 5yr 80 mil with 6 yr 16 mil option

January 2, 2011 at 11:34 AM | Unregistered CommenterGarrett

Any updates?

January 2, 2011 at 12:41 PM | Unregistered CommenterGarrett

Just playing devils advocate but what if the Rangers had to have Beltre's name on the paper to then complete the rest of a Block Buster like MY to somebody for say.....The Moon! or DH and Ace pitcher? Naw! That only happens in the movies.

January 2, 2011 at 12:50 PM | Unregistered CommenterTom B

I dont know guys, i still think this is true

January 2, 2011 at 1:09 PM | Unregistered CommenterGarrett

This could be the first step to another move if true...although I'd love having a super utility/ DH in MY.

January 2, 2011 at 1:14 PM | Unregistered CommenterP1 Stefen

And it would keep Beltre away from LAA. I'm starting to get on board with this idea, actually.

January 2, 2011 at 1:20 PM | Unregistered CommenterWWJDD?

I really like this signing if indeed it is true!!!!!!!!

January 2, 2011 at 1:31 PM | Unregistered CommenterJake

No way! JD would never mortgage future financial flexibility at this price for a marginal fit like this one. Such rumors are seeded by agents or clubs to drive the price up or to create a "mystery team" for leverage. Don' lose any sleep.

January 2, 2011 at 1:36 PM | Unregistered CommenterSAMAGS

Best defensive left side of the infield in the majors if true...scary good

January 2, 2011 at 1:40 PM | Unregistered CommenterP1 Stefen

Beltre is hardly a marginal fit. It would make the left side of the infield THE BEST in the league and Beltre steps in for Vlad in the order. This team is not young, the sustainability of this level of success is not going to be more than 2-4 years, why wouldn't you sign someone that would (as Pras calculated) result in about a 5 WAR improvement?

January 2, 2011 at 1:44 PM | Unregistered CommenterFullerTron

Beltre's facebook page says he's signed with the Rangers, but again, we've discussed before that it is probably not to be trusted, especially since very reputable sources from Fox say there is no deal in place.

January 2, 2011 at 2:14 PM | Unregistered CommenterSkeletor

I was wanting to ask you Skeletor, thanks, i have no idea whether this is all true.

January 2, 2011 at 2:15 PM | Unregistered CommenterGarrett

I dont think this is true, i just looked at his page and he sounds like a kid, not a professional
