Forum > Vlad Guerrero or Andruw Jones?
If I remember correctly we already tried the Jones experiment...
Jones 2009 wOBA (with Rangers, of course): .338
signing Jones would be wasting millions, atleast Vlad has proven himself valuable to this organization

Andruw Jones--you're kidding-RIGHT?
BOBBI LOU
Thome 2010 wOBA: .437

Andruw Jones. Good one.

This shouldn't even be a consideration.

vlad for sure...he is needing for the clubhouse, called moral....chemistry or whatever he is valuable and he loves the rangers.....

While I don't buy into the notion of going with Andruw again, I'm also wary of assigning excessive weight to intangibles and such -- for example, was the team chemistry good last year because the team won, or because the roster coalesced? Major leaguers will themselves tell you that the answer generally lies closer to No. 1 than No. 2.
I don't doubt that Vlad is a good clubhouse guy. What I do doubt is the quantifiable impact of him being a good clubhouse guy. There are countless teams throughout baseball history that had great character/clubhouse guys and didn't do a damn thing contention-wise. And to that end, I'm a great deal more focused on productivity and the roster fit than chemistry

I seem to remember David Murphy saying that Vlad was pretty quiet in the clubhouse. If my memory serves me correctly I think it was something along the lines of "He doesn't talk, but he is always smiling." Any clubhouse plus people assign Vlad would/should be neutralized if it is used in comparison to Jim Thome who is reportedly a fantastic clubhouse guy.

Let's not waste millions on Guerrero, please.
