That's certainly a question best suited for Jason Parks. I know it can be fairly complicated to sign a player from the Mexican League. I'll send your post to Jason and post whatever response I might get.

I've scouted Amador (read: I've written reports for teams), and his numbers are better than his tools. He is extremely strong, with a angled swing that allows him to drive the ball and utilized that strength. I mean, seriously, this guy is strong. However, he lacks athleticism, and his ability to punish Mexican League pitching hides his weaknesses at the plate. Most arms in that league depend on junk and location, rather than elite velocity and power. Amador has good hand speed, but he also has some mechanical hitches in his swing that allow him to get the jump on the mid 80s FBs and spike CBs, but would prove problematic against superior pitching. I had his hit tool graded in the 40/45 range on the 20/80 scale.

On defense, he's a natural DH. His footwork at 1B is below-average and his body isnt great. He doesn't project to have a DH bat at the major league level, so his value is extremely limited.

There is also the task of buying him out of his contract with Los Diablos Rojos. It's very complicated and very expensive, and I believe Boston tried to acquire him a few years ago and failed to reach a deal with his parent club.

Amador would not be a top prospect if brought Stateside. If he landed on the right team, he might be able to produce like a AAAA player, but he would get exploited after exposure.

I appreciate that Parks could you also give me a scouting report on Hector Velazquez I know the Rangers and Giants have intrest in the 22 year old could tell me how he compare against some top pitching prospects?

I can't comment on Velazquez at this time. Sorry. He's not a special arm, but he has a versatile repertoire, and I think it could translate to the majors. I'll post more when/if he signs.

This is an amazing wismical world where we can ask a very specific question and actually get a response the same day. Thanks Jason.

It is amazing. A question was posted and an hour later comes the detailed response. Interactivity is coming soon to BBTIA. Can a weekly chat be that far away? Click a few ads and watch the site become a true monster!

I clicked on this expecting it to be some gibberish with a spam link directing me to cheap Canadian prescription drugs. What a pleasant surprise.
