Forum > Could we be about to sign Beltre?

The below is in from a Jamey Newberg Trot Coffey email (sign up on his website):

· This was reported last night by someone called “Big Joe” McDonnell, whose tagline is “Your Online Connection for L.A. Radio’s Best News and Commentary”: “A source close to the Angels-Adrian Beltre negotiations told me tonight that the Angels have dropped out after ‘making him (Beltre) an incredible offer.’ The source reports that the offer was rejected by Beltre and his agent, Scott Boras, and that ‘there’s no room for further negotiation.’”

· Buster Olney (ESPN) reported a few days ago that the Angels had offered Beltre five years and $70 million.

· Hmmm.

Who knows, there is probably a mystery team like there was for Lee... He is not worth more than what the angels offered..

It would be absolutely hilarious if the Phillies pick up Beltre...

Rosenthal reports that the Rangers are not active on Beltre and it appears Boras is asking 5yrs, 85-90 mil range

According to Rosenthal we are not actively pursuing Beltre, which means, as I feared, the front office is making no headliners or big deals in any fashion to help this team. Signing Vlad and Webb and calling it done is NOT satisfactory, JD. You are about to have some pissed off Rangers fans at the expose next year if you don't do something big!

The below from Newberg:

"Tweeted by Angels broadcaster Victor Rojas: “Last I heard the Angels have not closed the door on [the Adrian] Beltre negotiations but stumbling block may be insistence of a 6th guaranteed year.”"

Maybe there is a mystery team or maybe Adrian is trying to get as much out of the Angels as possible, thinking that it is not his top choice, and that he would only take rediculous cash to play there. Maybe he would rather play in Texas for a three year deal worth 16 million a year. Maybe he wants to come to Texas to win.

JD has done a hell of a job building a solid team that has made it to a world series and will compete for more. He gets the benefit of the doubt this offseason. I imagine the "pissed off Rangers fans" will number in the handful.

To me this rumor -- if it's even true -- means nothing more than Boras is shopping the Angels offer to see if they can get someone to throw in a sixth year or more money. I really doubt the Angels are "out" on Beltre and that the Rangers could thus swoop in and get some sort of bargain. I think the Rangers should sign Beltre and move or trade Young, but I understand that might not be too popular in the clubhouse and that the Rangers won't sign Beltre to the contract that Boras seems to be asking for.

If Beltre has waited this long to sign, he is waiting for a team like the rangers or someone else to make an offer...

Beltre's facebook page discusses the Angels 5 yr offer, how he has discussed it with his family, and how he now wants fan's opinions. It seems like he's really leaning toward the Angels. Plus, are the RAngers even interested in Beltre. Rosenthal seems to think, no.

Skeletor, write on Beltre's wall that the rangers would love to have him, lol

Oh no--joe thinks there might be mystery team. LMFAO you clown.

Write on Beltre's wall that the Angels are going to suck and that he should sign with the Rangers for a three year deal in order to win the World Series. Maybe we could do 16-17 million for three years.

Skeletor, did you write anything on Beltre's wall?

December 21, 2010 at 7:39 PM | Unregistered CommenterGarrett

Yeah. I said the Rangers are goign to win the division and have the best player in baseball. Why play with the old Angels when he can play with the best team in the West with the best playr

Write that the rangers have a lineup that could protect him and that he could mash in our park also mention that we have venezuelas so he would fit in well
