Forum > Cliff Lee
Yeah I woke up and saw this and I wanted to be mad but I just couldn't! Cliff Lee is a good guy. He helped us last year get into the playoffs and into the World Series.. The good thing out of this is we have a ton of leftover money. Sign extensions with Hamilton, Kinsler, and Cruz. Trade for Greinke right now is the answer. Before Lee signed I was against that but now I feel good about it.

If you're worried about being handcuffed, don't dare sign Hamilton and his bad back and his personal problems to a long=term, $20mil per season contract.

I'm actually not too worried about signing Hambone, as far as money is concerned, I don't think it will take 20 mil per, but maybe around 15 over 4 seasons maybe 5 tops. He has said that he just wants to be paid fairly, many interpret that to mean that he doesnt necessarily need to be paid like a Werth or Crawford, especially if he wants to stay in Texas (which it appears he does). As far as the others: Kinsler needs to show that he can stay healthy just as much as Hamilton does; Cruz needs to show that his hammy problems have been flukes; and CJ needs to prove that he wasnt a fluke last season

I agree on CJ. Unfortunately, by the time he proves that, he'll be a full Free Agent, and likely go to the highest bidder.
As for Kinsler and Cruz' injury problems: I don't love them, but they don't scare me like Hamilton's at all. I've never heard of a career ended by hamstring pulls. Yeah, they may keep going on the DL for a month or 6 weeks every year. But these are not degenerative injuries the way knees, ankles, shoulders, and ESPECIALLY backs are degenerative- they go bad and never get better, sapping a player of his skills and making him never the same.

I feel a little relieved. Lee is 32, and post steroid era, that's getting up there. I don't think we need to go desperate and trade for Greinke right away. If we're patient, a good pitcher will fall in our lap. We've got the chips to trade--we don't need to overpay for Greinke. The Royals know we're desperate right now--they'll fleece us.
I'm glad the Rangers stayed within their plan, but were aggressive. Good sign. No one player is worth scrapping your whole system.

Just a few points I want to share.
I want to be pissed off and all, but this was a deal that could have potentially handcuffed out club in a few years.
Cliff took a deal for less years and money to play where he wanted to play. I bitch so much about the Yankees and all, and Cliff pretty much did exactly how I think we all feel and played where he wanted to play. That takes some balls.
Good luck to you, Cliff. I hope to (not) see you in the Series.
