Forum > Think This Will Have Any Impact On Lee's Offseason Decision???
I personally would have a hard time playing for a fan base who would treat a woman, much less my wife, like that. I guess we will see how it all plays out, but this probably won't hurt our chances.

I hope the Texas Ranger fans remember to show respect to the Giant fans when they visit Arlington later this week. You never know who's going to be sitting next to you or down a few rows and how your behavior will effect their opinion of the whole community of DFW, the State of Texas and the Texas Ranger organization. We can respect each other and still root for our team to win. GO RANGERS!

Dunno if any of those things will have a significant impact on his signing...in isolation, at least. But all of it combined could add up...the bonding with new teammates...a World Series win...40 minute plane ride to home games...kids/school/family...being harassed by NY fans.
I know that incidents can, and have, happened everywhere...anytime you're in an environment where alcohol is served it can happen. But Mrs. Lee has been with Lee for a long time and has seen him and his team play in dozens of stadiums. It must have been pretty severe for her to speak out about it...not just a few fans yelling "Rangers suck"

I don't really expect this to have any effect. The Lees are good friends with the Sabathias, there's just as much reason for them to sign in NY. The Yankees can offer him a private jet to fly to Arkansas without the usual airport hassle as an incentive, etc.
The best advantages the Rangers have are 1)winning the WS, accomplish that and it makes Lee like it here even more, and, 2)the Yankees luxury tax. The luxury tax adds a whopping 40% to the cost for Lee. If the Rangers offer $25M per year, it will cost the Yankees $35M per year just to match that salary ($25M plus 40%). If the Rangers are willing to go 6 years and $150M it will cost the Yankees $210M after the tax. I'd have to think that would give even them pause.
The Rangers committing that much money makes me a bit uncomfortable. I'm not sure if it makes me as uncomfortable as having to face Lee in the playoffs next year or contemplating a rotation without him.

Wow t ball thanks. I had totally forgotten about the luxury tax. That certainly helps our cause.
I don't think rowdy fans eliminates the Yankees, but if the money is even close I think they will lean heavily towards Texas. It seems he fits very well with this team.

Keep in mind that if Lee signs with the Yankees, she won't be sitting in the visitors' section. And it wasn't the Yankees who treated her like that, just a few drunk fans. Every park has those.

@t ball - don't forget to factor in the 6.85% state income tax for New York.

Factoring in both the luxury tax and state income tax, it would take about 225 million from NYY to put the same amount of money in Lee's pockets as a 150 million contract offer from Texas.
