Forum > Rangers/Yankees Difference in Salaries
It's crazy when you see the numbers side by side. Admire that huge disparity while it lasts - when you consider things like a potential Cliff Lee re-signing, raises, potential long-term deals and free agency, I bet we'll be speeding toward the $100M mark sooner rather than later.

So many fun facts:
The difference between the Yankees payroll and the Rangers payroll is the Cubs payroll. The Cubs have the third-highest payroll in baseball.
Cliff Lee, C.J. Wilson, Colby Lewis and Tommy Hunter (all of Texas’ playoff starting rotation) combined make less than Mariano Rivera – the Yankees’ closer.

I hate them.

I don't like them, but it's due to their fans. The Yankees are the Yankees. They're going to keep spending to get the best talent they can. Bitching about their payroll is even getting old to me, a Rangers fan.

The fact that they have such an obscene payroll makes it that much sweeter beating them.

Kerry Wood would be the 2nd highest paid player on our team.. hahaha that's insane

How many of the Spankees would you take on a waiver claim...knowing you would then pay their full salaries? Hard to say considering the effect it would have during near-future negotiations with some of our free-agents or youngsters we might want to lock up long term. There would be zero flexibility with even a middle of the road Spankee salary added...
