Forum > David Price calls out the Rays' fans

That's the way baseball goes:

Had a chance to clinch a post season spot tonight with about 10,000 fans in the stands....embarrassing

Of course, Price is right. It actually is pretty embarrassing. But I look at this remark and think back to MLB reportedly "scolding" players for their Twitter usage in general, and it occurs to me that moments like this are why MLB adopted that position in the first place.

Good for Price. It doesn't bother me one bit. I'd be pissed off too.

Good for him. Tampa doesn't deserve a team as good as the Rays

It takes a lot to to top Miami as a crap sports town, but Tampa does that and then some.

The city of Tampa Bay sucks.

Okay, first of all, there's no City of Tampa Bay. Secondly, the local economy here sucks. Can you say 12%+ unemployment? The Bucs sold out week after week for years, and we've been blacked out for the last two weeks. Finally, have you ever been to Tropicana Field? I have. It's not the greatest place to watch a game. And the stadium is not in the best place, although if you are ever in the Tampa Bay area, downtown St Petersburg is a great place to hang out.

Having said ALL THAT, David Price is still right. 10,000 people in the stands is an embarrassment. I would point the finger at myself, except I care more about the Rangers than I do about the Rays. And maybe that's part of the problem: people care more about other things than they do the Rays right now. There's just not a "let's go catch a ballgame" culture on the west side of the bay. And not so much on the east side either.

I stand corrected.

Well I guess the people of The Tampa Bay Area who don't supports the local team suck.

How's that?

Florida just has poor sports fans in general.. Rays can't get fans, Marlins can't get fans, Jaguars can't get fans, Bucs can't get fans... Outside of basketball and college football, those might be 4 of the 10 worst fan bases in all of sports

The whole state of Florida is a huge garbage dump and should be cut off from the Union, in my humble opinion. The only thing Florida is good for is making Cops such a great show to watch.

The Rays gave away 20,000 tickets to todays game and played to a packed house of about 37,000 people. Anyone care to comment? I heard they were filming an episode of Cops outside in the parking lot. After the game was over, Florida cut itself off from the Union and the entire state fell into the Gulf of Mexico. Cheering and loud snickering erupted from residents of Texas who quickly inquired about beachfront property in Southern Georgia. One Texas resident was perplexed, saying to a reporter, "Damn, who are we gonna look down our nose at now? Oklahoma's way too easy, and my sister's Momma's son is from there anyhow."

Yeah. Florida sucks.

John - I was really just making fun - I don't really want to wipe Florida off the map. But it is true that a lot of the nation's wackiness and / or idiocy seems to come from there, strangely. I also admit that it's rather hypocritical for Texas to bash on Florida for wackiness and / or idiocy, though.

Diogenes -

All in fun from my end. I grew up in Dallas. Heading back there in a week. I'm bringing a bag of oranges for K-Mart.

Florida lost all respect when The Jersey Shore moved there. And no, the wort state in the Union is Kansas. NEVER GOT HERE.

*GO THERE

I imagine a lot of teams could "sell out" if they gave away 20,000 tickets each night... just because people showed up for free tickets doesn't mean the Rays all of a sudden have good fans now
