Forum > The ideal off-season

What's your vision for the ideal off-season? Let's dream a little bit but keep it somewhat within the realm of possibility. (We'll say there's a cap of 125 million for the 2011 payroll).

In no way is $125 million within the realm of possibility.

125 mil might be a fantasy, but I don't think 95 to 100 million is. The only way that it hits that number though is if we sign Cliff Lee to a 5 yr 110 mil deal, which would add about 22 mil right there. Then obiviously we need to sign Hamilton but I don't know for how long, Injuries are scaring me. Then go get a 1st baseman I don't know who is out there. Then maybe we can skate by on making a decision on Micheal Young at 3rd, Go get Beltre maybe, but Micheal at third is not the long term solution maybe move him to DH. I just don't want to lose him cause I am sentimental about a player giving his all, being moved around for the betterment of the team, being here through all the same crap us fans have been through, to just cast him off. That would be a pretty good winter for the rangers.

Just though about maybe moving Young to 1st base and going out and getting Beltre. Maybe that could be a solution.

Yes guys, 125 million is a fantasy. I'm just saying don't go so overboard as to put the Rangers into Yankee/Redsox territory.

Resign Cliff Lee.

Arbitrate Josh and Francoeur.

Let Vlad go.

Sign a solid Cater. Barajas makes some sense.

Put together a blockbuster led by CJ and Tommy Hunter plus 4-5 prospects for Greinke.

13 positional players:

C: Treanor/Barajas

IF: Moreland (1B), Kinsler (2B), Andrus (SS), Young (3B), Blanco (MIF), Davis (CIF)

OF/DH: Cruz (RF), Borbon (CF), Murphy (LF), Hamilton (DH), Francoeur (bench/platoon starter vs LHP)

Rotation: Lee, Greinke, Lewis, Holland, Feldman/Beltre

Bullpen: Feliz, Francisco, Ogando, Oday, Oliver, Kirkman, and Nippert/Feldman/Beltre

September 23, 2010 at 2:30 PM | Unregistered CommenterMartinG

scooby dude im not tryn to clown on u or nothing im just wondering y you have a weird prefrence with Greinki but thats a package you give up for a Josh Johnson or Felix Hernandez

1) I like CJ and Tommy, but I think now is an opportunity to "sell high" on both guys. I think this ends up being CJ's career year, though I think he'll be a good starter for several more seasons. Hunter is not as good as his numbers, so if someone will value him at his numbers, take the deal.

2) You're not getting Johnson without giving up Perez, I think, and I doubt King Felix is going to be dealt within the division. Matt Cain might be a good option, but I see Kansas City sitting there with the clock going tick..tick...tick before they lose him for nothing to NY/Bos. Thus, I think he's getable at a reasonable price. But I'd take any of the 4 I just mentioned, probably in the order Johnson, Felix, Greinke, Cain.

Ohh okay now i understand your picking the one we can most likely get

and imo i think CJ will have a better year next year after a full season in the rotation and then begin ro regress and yea if a team would be dumb enough to take them at there highest stock would be KC

I read that David Wright might be available, and that NYM would want pitching. Maybe CJ or Tommy would be a fit in a deal for him

Scooby, the Royals are not going to trade Zack Greinke for a pitcher who is older than he is in CJ Wilson. They want young players.

Would an ideal offseason include hiring bobby V as the Manager and a huge score board like at Kaufman and a retractable roof???

September 24, 2010 at 1:40 PM | Unregistered CommenterMartinG

Then work a 3-way. Deal CJ for a pair of prospects, and ship them to KC w Hunter and some more prospects. However, I think KCs in a bit of a jam. They can't just ship Greinke for kids, even though they likely should. They have to get kids AND keep fans semi-interested. Swapping Greinke for CJ and getting a bunch of prospects might do the trick. They could then deal CJ themselves for whatever package makes the most sense to them.
