Forum > Playoff opponent

With New Yorks recent struggles, Tampas recent success and Minnesota quietly a game or so behind both said teams. Who would you rather see in the ALDS.

I know Minnesota would most likely be the preferred opponent, but I think all 3 are equally dangerous opponents. All three can hit hard, and all 3 pitch. I'm just saying.

So discuss or something!

I want the Yankees. Bring those sonsab!tches on. I have zero emotions for either TB or MN.

My hatred for the Yankees burns about 312 calories per hour.

I second dub's emotion........

The Yankees have to be the preferred team because of their pitching situation. After CC everything is very much in flux. Also our ability to pitch lefties in 4 of the 5 games is a huge advantage against a Yankee team that struggles against lefties.

Sure, it was the iphone's fault.

I want the Yankees, both because I fear them less than the Rays and because a victory over them would be sweeter.

The Yankees, both for he poetic justice of eliminating the bane of our previous playoff experiences, and the fact that I think we can beat them

Sorry if this is a bad question, I just couldn't figure it out and need to ask. If NY wins the East, then we would play TB, if I'm not mistaken...so would TB (with the better record) get homefield adv., or would we, because we won our division?

I also want to face the Yankees, but I'd prefer that that happens in the ALCS. Give me Tampa Bay in the ALDS. Anything can happen in a short series. Wouldn't it be sweet to have home field over the Yankees in the second round?

Ryan from Waco, the wild card team will not have home field, regardless of record.

Also, we can't play the Twins in round 1 even if they have the best record, because the 2 AL East teams can't meet in the 1st round. So we go to the AL East champs in R1. I'll take the Rays, hope the Yanks beet the Twins, and try for home field in ALCS.

FYI... Yankees have the third best record in the AL against lefties.

Yankees vs. Lefties this year - 31-23
Rangers vs. Lefties this year - 23-22

Yankees have a couple lefties in their rotation. I don't think 31-23 is as much of a struggle as 23-22.

We can't play Minn. in the ALDS and I don't think we want to play them in the ALCS because they would have homefield advantage and we are 0-6 this year at Target Field. (BTW I was at the first two games of our last series there, great park, great crowd but Rangers Ballpark is still the best in the majors IMO). So the real question is, who do we want to face the Twins? Unless we somehow over take the Twins in the standings, the Twins get the wild card and we get the east champs. Whom ever has a better chance of beating the Twins, give us the other team so we can have homefield in the 7 game ALCS. Tampa went 3-1 in Minn but went 2-2 againest them at home. Yanks were 2-1 both home and away. I think Tampa's pitching matches up better against the Twins so my vote is for us to get the Yanks in the ALDS and hopefully the Rays in the ALCS. In any event, it's great to be excited going into late Sept. and to be talking Rangers playoff baseball!! Somewhere I have a 'Red October' sign I need to dig out.

It will be Tampa, starting on the road and on turf, for a 5 games series (which seems very scary)....then Minnesota, starting on the road, for a 7 game series which takes away any revenge on the Yanks.

Well f me then, yeah I guess Harris question is the one to go with.

I don't care much about who Texas plays in the 1st round (though I would slightly rather see NYY than TMB). I just want a miracle that allows Texas to pass one of the other division winners to get the #2 seed. I know it is a LONG shot, but I can't make it to a game in Arlington on 10-9 but could make a game on 10-6. And that is important because I REALLY want to be at the 1st playoff game in this series.

Tampa goes the rest of the way against Seattle, Baltimore, and Kansas City. New York plays Boston and Toronto. Tropicana here we come!
