Forum > Colby Lewis Upset With Boos

After the game, Colby Lewis had a few interesting statements about being booed as he was pulled from today's game.

“I thought we had better fans than that,’’ Lewis said. “I mean, it’s the first time I’ve given up more than five runs. I walk a guy, and now they boo me?

“It was disappointing,’’ he said. (ESPN Dallas)

Do you agree with him? Or should he just keep his mouth shut on such matters? I personally have to agree with him. He has been one of the 2 or 3 best pitchers all season. Rangers fans don't need to be booing guys for having a bad outing here and there. Now if you wanna boo Rich Harden?? Completely different story, and we'd be bad fans if we DIDNT boo him in my opinion.

Boo effing hoo, fans don't expect to go .500 against the Athletics. Get over it Colby.

I have to completely agree with Colby, but he should be the one to say it.

Oops. He shouldn't have been the one to say it. I still have to agree with him though.

I would boo anyone that gives up that many runs in a start. All it does is say that they sucked and need to do better. I dont see the problem really.

I agree with Colby but he shouldn't be so sensitive. Getting booed is part of the game just as much as getting cheered. Happens to everyone at some point. The Rangers had a chance to essentially bury the A's by taking two of three in the series and didn't. I'm sure some fans were disappointed and were venting their overall frustration. If I'm a player, I would rather have 30,000 impolite fair weather fans in the stands than 5,000 quiet, polite fans. Love me, hate me, I don't care as long as you pay to see me.

The thing that eats at me just a little bit is if you threw out the records, Oakland may be a better team than the Rangers right now.

The Rangers have lost 7 of Lewis' last 8 starts. Cliff Lee throws batting practice just about every time out. The Rangers have a losing record (25-26) since July 1. Fans are booing the team.

I know Cruz is back tonight, and Kinsler is not far behind, but we need a quick jumpstart to get this team back on the rails.

Yeah, I wouldn't have booed him because I see how much Colby has done for us this year and it was a rare bad start. At the same time, how else do you expect fans to show their frustration when things go wrong? Fans are booing because they care and maybe they're a little anxious because this is the first time expectations have been so high this late in the season. Fans are nervous and want to see our team perform well (which hasn't happened much lately), especially against the team right behind us. I'm sure Colby won't have any complaints next time the fans cheer him for a good outing. Colby should not have said anything other than "i'm sorry I let the fans down. I expect to do better than that next time."

JIC...I agree, looking at their pitching, BUT ...we are less than a week from adding 60 HR's (2009) from two clutch bats back from the DL. I'll bet they don't go through our lineup like Charlie Brown's team then. Cheer up, Dude.

Colby had a point he has more quality starts than anyone on the team and had one bad outing and gets boo'd . The fans have aright to boo but probably should have been booing the offense not Colby.

Colby shouldn't get booed, but he should get some vagisil. Stop whining.

I dont think they are booing Colby, just venting general frustration at how the game was going. Not really a big deal, and he shouldn't have been so sensitive. I imagine its party stemmed from his inability to win a game for a couple months.

LOL @ you guys thinking that it's the Ranger offenses fault he's on a 7 game slide...

Sooooooooooooooooooo.... can we boo him now?

If you're speaking in terms of win-loss records, uh, yeah, the lack of offensive support has been pretty key. He departed three of his last eight starts with just one run allowed in six or more innings and earned a loss in two of those three starts (and a no-decision in the other).
