Forum > Strike Zone Tonight?

I was at the game again tonight. Just wondering how the zone was called. I sit in section 32 which is the lower bowl, first base side. So while I can usually tell high/low pitches, I virtually can't distinguish inside/outside pitches and the crowd was getting pretty rambunctious about some ball/strike calls tonight. Just wondering what it looked like on TV, since I couldn't tell either way.

Josh - same section and I was wondering the same thing. Have you heard anything?

The Calls were pretty generous and leaned towards the Rangers. Wide corners

There were a lot of strikes called low and outside.

I was with 2.0 and there was a lot of hubub about the strike zone. Like he said, we can tell high and low, but not side to side. It seemed like there were a few close pitches that we didn't get. BUT, isn't that how it always is?

Shouln't they have a camera in the homeplate umpire's mask? I'd like to see how it look from his vantage point on the close calls.

That would be pretty cool Dave. They showed a thing on MLB Network a few weeks back about how whichever shoulder the umpire chooses to look over on the catcher can play a big factor in which balls get called strikes or not. It was interesting. And they pointed out that in the old days they used those huge pads to protect themselves so they set up directly over the catcher, but now they are forced to choose one side or the other. Not an easy job that's for sure.
